Men can become much more easily stressed and anxious by their negative emotions and because of that, as well as not being raised to manage their emotions as effectively, men generally have a more difficult time soothing themselves and recovering from negative emotions than women do. Because of this, a healthy relationship focuses more on helping the man soothe himself from negative emotions since the woman is probably already engaging in successful self-soothing already. Make him laugh!
The best way for women in relationships to help soothe her male partner is to successfully use humor. By successfully, that means knowing what makes your husband/boyfriend laugh and doing that. It may not make sense to anyone else but as long as it works for the two of you, that’s all that matters!
Using humor increases his experience of positive feelings and helps him manage his negative feelings much better so that they don’t overwhelm him. When men feel criticized, they often worry that their female partners don’t like them anymore and that they are no longer desirable to their wives/girlfriends.
Because humor tends to lighten the mood and also can be something intimate shared by two people, making him laugh will indicate to him that you still like him and still feel connected to him.
